Civil War Days

Living History Encampment

July 19th - 21st

Visitors observe Civil War era reenactors from 20th Maine Infantry Company B, 15th Regiment Alabama Volunteer Infantry, Company A and 3rd Maine Infantry, Company A.

Held in conjunction with the Bucksport Bay Festival, the Civil War Weekend will feature living history demos, cannon firing and camp life in the mid-1800’s. On Saturday and Sunday, the reenactors recreate a skirmish of Confederate and Union soldiers firing rifles and cannons in tactical defenses, assaults and advances in a battle for ground true to the period.

Special Presentations on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. by Author Brian Swartz from Hampden titled:

Maine Helps Save the Union in 1861 and 1862

as well as on his newly released book, titled Maine at War Volume 1: Bladensburg to Sharpsburg.

Drawing upon letters, diaries, period newspaper articles, the Maine State Archives, regimental histories, and

the Official Records, Maine at War Volume 1 tells the first 18 months of Maine's involvement in the Civil War as experienced by

the Maine men and women who left home to defend and preserve the Union. With 492 pages and 313 photos and illustrations,

the book covers the period from Fort Sumter to Thanksgiving 1862.
